The Bottleneck Paradox

Naval Ravikant is an endless well of wisdom, but one phrase of his has stuck true with us for STUDIOFORM®:

"Productize yourself."

In the beginning of S/F, when it was just me (Ryan Antooa, hi) behind every single identity and asset that went out the door – I had full control over every single process, product, and input at the agency.

Over time, as we grew and scaled over the years, it became quite apparent that I ran the risk of becoming a bottleneck to our success as a company – both internally and with clients.

If every single process, decision, and piece of creative has to run by you for approval – you're running the risk of stifling your business' trajectory.

“Productize yourself.”

It's a matter of capacity, really. Even if you were to take on very few clients at an ultra-high price per project, you would still have to dedicate the hours and limited capacity you have towards controlling every part of the process. This is where the art of delegation is essential.

There are a few key ways to reduce the bottleneck effect, free up your time as an agency owner, and improve business all around:

  1. Delegate tasks to your team effectively.

  2. Standardize processes around your studio.

Delegating is an art. I've learned that the hard way.

It isn't just about doling out tasks to your team and expecting the best; it's tied hand-in-hand with developing the right SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures)

The best stories make people feel seen, understood, and inspired. They leave a mark not because they are loud, but because they are meaningful. This is the essence of modern branding, and it’s what sets extraordinary brands apart from the rest.

Which leads to point number two: standardize all the processes you have at your studio. This means that for every contract you sign, for every deliverable sent off, for every website built – there is a clear roadmap on how to execute said process, from start to finish.

We built a Knowledge Library OS in our Notion Database which details every single process at our agency, with all the templates and steps needed to complete it. That way, once you delegate a task, someone isn't at a loss for how to do things – they can just head to the requisite tab in the Knowledge Library.

By combining delegation with the right set of documented processes and guidelines, time and capacity are both freed up for the Founder – and the bottleneck paradox is effectively solved.
